The line "God bless the babies that sleep in you," could very well be literal. Babies in the womb have sleep and wake cycles just like we do. Also, Mason is married and has two sons, so it's very possible he's singing to his pregnant wife.
The figurative makes sense as well, though, referring to his children yet to be conceived. I guess the questions are: when did he write the song, and how old are his kids? ;)
