J'adore ce chanson! Je l'aime beaucoup!

I've taken almost three years of French, so I understand most of this song. But it's still a great song if you don't know what's being said. Me and my friends were listening to it in the car the other day, and my friend was singing along...and when the song was over, she said, "Man, I have no clue what that song is about, but I really like it." It was pretty funny. But it's true, I guess, as shown by the comment(s) above me, that you don't have to know what's being said to love it.

Alors, voici a rough translation:

Je m'baladais sur l'avenue le coeur ouvert à l'inconnu -I strolled on the avenue, my heart open to the unknown, J'avais envie de dire bonjour à n'importe qui -I felt like saying hello to anyone N'importe qui et ce fut toi, je t'ai dit n'importe quoi -No matter who -- and it was you, I said whatever crossed my mind Il suffisait de te parler, pour t'apprivoiser -Speaking to you was enough, to bring you out of your shell.

Aux Champs-Elysées, aux Champs-Elysées -On the Champs-Élysées, on the Champs-Élysées Au soleil, sous la pluie, à midi ou à minuit -In the sun, in the rain, at midday or at midnight Il y a tout ce que vous voulez aux Champs-Elysées -Everything you want is on the Champs-Élysées

Tu m'as dit "J'ai rendez-vous dans un sous-sol avec des fous -You told me, "I have an appointment in a basement with lunatics Qui vivent la guitare à la main, du soir au matin" -Who live with a guitar in hand, from evening to morning" Alors je t'ai accompagnée, on a chanté, on a dansé -Then I went with you, we sang, we danced, Et l'on n'a même pas pensé à s'embrasser -And we didn’t even think of kissing each other

Hier soir deux inconnus et ce matin sur l'avenue -Last night [we were] two strangers, and this morning on the avenue Deux amoureux tout étourdis par la longue nuit -[We're] Two lovers utterly dazed by the long night Et de l'Étoile à la Concorde, un orchestre à mille cordes -And from [la Place de] l'Étoile to [la Place de] la Concorde, an orchestra of a thousand strings, Tous les oiseaux du point du jour chantent l'amour -All the birds at daybreak sing of love

Hope you guys find it helpful! By the way, in case you don't know, Les Champs-Elysées is the broadest and most prestigious avenue in Paris. It has cafés, shops, theatres, and more boarding it. It's referred to as "laplus belle avenue du monde" or "the most beautiful avenue in the world" and many people just like to stroll up and down it for fun, which is basically what the song is about. I think it perfectly captures that mood of a lazy afternoon spent taking a walk on a beautiful avenue.

Hey,taylorsaurus rex! Good Job! ^^ I know it's not easy to translate our songs (I'm French) from French to English. This one wasn't to difficult to understand, but you correctly translate it! ^^ When you speak French fluently, it's sometimes a real playground! :D
