I actually disagree. I think this song is about two people who obviously love each other, but the guy just can't commit to her. There is something missing, and that missing piece is what keeps them apart. To explain, "Yesterday he looked at me

I would say that he is saying that he's like 2 different people and she loves the other person that he is (not the one who keeps leaving her, "He was always stepping out for air and he froze.") It's sad because these two people are meant for eachother but can't get over that one obstacle... but that's just how I see it.
i totally agree..there's no third person..that's the best part of this song: the problem they have is inside of them..those are the kind of problem that you are never able to face. a cheating would be just superficial.
