I agree that it's about a man and his lover, sort of. I think she's more of an EX-lover, and he refuses, or is unable to, let go. Each stone is a tear - the more he cries for her, the more he walls her in this little house in his head. Once it's done, that's it for him - he'll never be able to let her go.
Also, I think that "Stein Um Stein" is a great lead-in for "Amour," because once you get to the next song, it's like part two; the guy is now completely destroyed by this beast called love.
