In my opinion (and I think Jakob Dylan writes his songs so that they can mean multiple things to many people...its brilliant), this song is about carpe diem (seizing the day). Someone is setting out to find what they were meant to do with their life and they are leaving behind everything from their past, only to return when they have found what they are looking for.
I don't see how the song has to do specifically to virginity, but I suppose it could be applied.
