This is an amazing song; I love both Doolin Dalton and Desperado and this song is so perfect.

I first heard the Desperado album on 12'' and I fell in love with this song. I just got the CD after over-listening to the vinyl and now it's never off my iTunes/iPod/BlackBerry.

The whole album tells the story of the Dalton gang and their partnership with Bill Doolin. Doolin Dalton is about when the Daltons and Doolin robbed a bank and Bill Dalton was shot dead. This is when Doolin is shot dead, he came to terms with human mortality ''sooner or later we all have to die''

Then the Desperado part is back to the story of 'Desperado' possibly Emmett Dalton who was the youngest of the gang and who I believe was the only one left for a long time. ''All alone in the center ring'' he has no family or friends left; they're all dead.

The whole gang died in the Coffeyville raid except Emmett, who lived on for another forty-odd years.
