Well anyway, it's one of my Pulp favorites. Jarvis has that sexiness oozing from his voice in this one.
So it seems he's singing about this girl he desires to be with, and she's broken from the way another man treats her.

I think you can also see it that these two people are together but maybe it's not good for them to be together. I take it that his legendary girlfriend is distant and the word legendary is not to be taken in a good way. Legendary maybe meaning that this girl takes the cake in dysfunction. And he can't get away because he's not ready or perhaps lonely. "I know it's not forever but tonight I don't care." They must have this sexual relationship and somehow he has morphed it into something deeper for himself. But she doesn't feel it....
