Bagpipe seems to have it perfect, but the explanation can be fleshed out a lot more. Assume the song is like an argument between two friends, with the singer switching back and forth between each friend.

"You've been in back of me/Feeling sensibly" - Each friend always has the other's back, will always tell them when they're doing something stupid.

"No more you and me/No more listening" - When one is told what they don't want to hear, they get angry and continue anyway.

"If you're gonna go now/Well I wanna go with you" - Even though the advice is ignored, the friends will still stick together and see it through.

"Oh yeah you're a fucked up man, with a fucked up plan" - Ties in with the idea of one friend having a stupid idea, the other knows its messed up, but goes along anyway.

The "did i say too much?" paragraph is when it goes as expected and 'I told you so' sets in; the verse is just the argument between them, rising in anger towards the end.

This is counterbalanced by the final verse ("Why the finger? It's all right..."), the friends stop arguing, acknowledge what they do for each other and vow to keep doing it ("Helping you out man/Help me man" [written as "help me in" but I swear it's 'help me man'...]).

And then presumably, the cycle repeats... If you had a best friend while at college/school (or whenever your willder years were) or something similar, you'll probably know where this song is coming from.
