@DarrylM65 I wondered if anyone else would catch that which is why I clicked on to this site. This song was recorded a few years before Cher in 1965 by Kathy Kirby and although Kathy Kirby did have a lesbian relationship many years after she recorded the song, since Kathy Kirby wasn't the one who wrote the song, I doubt that the song what you suggest. I think it was just bad lyric writing. There were a few songs in the late '50s and early '60s that changed course in the middle of the song that frustrated a literal thinking...
