I feel like the woman has left him or is leaving him. Mostly where he says 'you won't sing along with me', kind of like he had a song...the song of his life that he wanted her to sing with him, and she wasn't there anymore to make the song of his life with him.
Also some credence to her being dead and he still loves her, though it seems like too many of his songs can be interpreted as a lover dying.
