This is such a very sad song. Even though people have previously said it was about Jack the Ripper, it always reminded me of the witch trials in the 1600s. Yes, I know the date is all wrong, but I think it holds true with the theme that humanity tends to judge people, and once they're condemned, refuses to think differently of them, no matter how innocent they are.
