The drumbeat in this song is superb. The spoken parts fit really well too, and I like the little touches on the piano. I really like the line 'I'm told it's called the great American lie,' that's unusually political for Numan. I suppose he's making the comment that, here in England, Christianity isn't really a defining feature in people's lives anymore, whereas in America there are many people who would consider themselves Christian. In general though I think the song is describing this nightmare world that is a theme on the Sacrifice album. Numan is writing from the point of view of a man who is haunted by God in his dreams.
