i always thought it was 'erratic on heavy metal' as well.
i don't think it's about love--not "real" love. i think it tends towards infatuation, a summer-fling type thing: a fast, intense relationship that happens against all odds, ignoring all differences, just unconditional love for a while... and then it ends. to me, that's the end it's talking about in the song.
