Versailles Lyrics

There's also a Palace of Versaille where the king of France, Louis XVI, his wife, Marie Antoinette, and child lived for a time. Louis wanted to rule another part of France as an absolute monarchy and took refuge in the Palace. Then the French Revolution took place and a mob captured Louis, along with his wife and child, while they were asleep. Louis and Marie were forced to walk 12 miles back to Paris, all while being taunted. They were held in prison for three years, after which they executed Louis and Marie. No clue what happened to the child.

This song makes more sense, for me, thinking about this situation. The mob travelled to the Palace of Versailles to reclaim their king, only to murder him and his wife - all for a good cause, or not, it's whichever your views are on the scenario; a change did come about, though.

I can almost picture the mob, full of fury, marching their way towards the Palace, screaming and yelling, tripping over each other in a passion of excitement, searching for their king. All of this is silent. You can see the anger in their faces and by their lips opening wide, throwing their fists and torches in the air.

My point: This song makes the mob's mission seem romantic.
