My interpretation is that a girl decides to break things off with the guy she loves. She breaks up even though she doesn't truly want it over but there are things she cannot control and shes torn. She doesn't want him to be upset, she doesn't want him to cry because she still loves him. He wants her but she says things she doesn't mean, trying to protect him. But even though shes said and done otherwise she still wants him
