To me, this song is all about hoping for and awaiting peace in a world that seems to worship war.
Humanity searches for purpose in life and too often the grand ideal we celebrate is war.
We decide on an enemy send our men out to fight and the women wish them luck in their horrific, bloody, terrible "purpose". And all the while the leaders in out purpose for being are held up as rightous figures and our nations, faith, and family encourage it.
Some of us look forward to the day that we will be above war, above the murder, above the "fields of mars"(fields of war).
