I think it's about the environment. As I see it, this song presents the image of what the world will be like after it's been polluted to bits. 'The sun bathes my wounds with a veil of rage' - this is describing the effects of global warming, I think. And of course it mentions the 'disrespect' shown to the environment by mankind. '...with pride and glass in our throats... they run as we laugh.' These two segments suggest that this future mankind is still defiant, denying the truth of climate change until the very last moment. Dunno about the 'Harvest their return' parts though, their meaning eludes me.
