Ok, I'll comment because you seem like you really want someone to, but I don't really know what the song's about. I think the abuse interpretation is a bit of a stretch. Nowhere in the song does it say that the person is reluctant to go home, it just says, "Every one of us seems to take the wrong way home." I think that line is basically saying that everyone wants the same things in life (happiness, satisfaction etc.) but they don't know how to get them. I do agree with your interpretation of the parts about gravity, "how about coming down," and "your elevator..." I think it is trying to say that the person is avoiding reality, living in some sort of fantasy land, isolating themselves, and the speaker thinks it's "no good" when they're "not around" (in their own little world). There's a time and place to be alone, but you can't do that all the time. The safe and sound part also fits in with that because when people just stay in their security zone all the time it seems like everything is fine but really there is a claustrophobia involved, it's like you're trapping yourself. I think that's why the song, and the lines "safe and sound" in particular sound so doomy and gloomy - not what you'd expect from a love song. I also like your insights on the title.
