I think that this is about the singer loosing his wife (or loved one) and having to face living life and raising a child without her. There are some things in the song, however, that make me think that she is terminally ill and DYING but not quite there. Such as "heaven is waiting" and most of the first verse.
this also includes the "flowers laid out for you" part as well.
"seeing your face reflect from our babies eyes" could be literally interpreted as the physical resemblence that the baby holds with the mother.
