The song is about a bad breakup "She said, "Now you go your way / I'll go mine /And that's a start"".
It's about depression "Doctor, doctor / Ain't no cure / For the pain in my heart".
It's about suicide "Gimme a bullet to bite on". The other songs on Powerage are all about drugs, depression, poverty, and suicide.
Yet another of Bon's reference to gambling "She knew the game / Called the play / Oh she hit me low". Life is a gamble. Ever hear the line "I'm a wheeler / I'm a dealer." More gambling.
Underrated? I don't think so. By whose rating system? If you think Bon is a great lyricist, you should express that. Saying that he's underrated is expressing what others think about him, not what you think. I think Bon's lyrics are descriptive and concise. They really put his feelings about life right out there for the world to see. In that regard, he was a great lyricist.

seriously good comment. it doesn't have to be complicated to be great. but it does require meaning. he told it straight.
