I can't believe NO ONE commented this song! It's probably my favorite song by Powerspace, because to me, it seems so deep. I mean, all their other songs are up-beat and fun, and this one seems much less shallow.
As for the meaning, I'm thinking that it's either about sucidie (excuse the spelling =P!) or a bad relationship.

I think that's a way of saying, as a solution to their problems, people commit sucide.
"But can you tell me, anyone? The consequences of setting someone free?"
= breaking up with someone, maybe he's thinking about it, and not sure if he should break up with her.
