They were an aspiring young band with a growing fan base but they hadn't had a big hit and I guess that was just what the record company expected them to deliver. I read somewhere that some music business people had given notable financial support for the "October" tour and the band probably needed to break even soon.
This might be their very attempt to come up with a catchy song to break the single charts. Of course it was other songs from this album that turned into famous anthems and "Two Hearts Beat As One" is rather a forgotten single but nevertheless with that album they seized what is described in this song as their "last chance". If this was really meant that way it's quite a bold move to explain to the (radio) audience in the lyrics what the song was written for...
