'The shadows come from under the ground, they sweep you off your feet.
As soon as the sun sets, the fucking earth sinks.'
Just to add another interpretation to this phrase, it seems to me that "the shadows" could be referencing the devil or demons, an allusion which appears in other songs on the album. "they sweep you off your feet" could be talking about how easy it is to succumb to these forces. The next line, "the fucking earth sinks" could mean that once the killer is being controlled by these forces, hell on earth commences, or earth sinks to hell (following the idea that hell is underground).
I do not think that the killer is actually a pastor. One definition for the term is "a person having spiritual care of a number of people". Maybe the killer considers himself such a "pastor" and he does harm to the victoms as a way of purifying them from their sins and devilish behavior. This fits the demon interpretation above. Also, from Drawing the Devil, in the line, "the devil's own hand was knotted by the pastor" could mean that the hand of the victom, or the devil as viewed by the killer, was knotted by the killer, who viewed himself as a pastor. To say that, I must say that I think "knotted" means that he put that ring on her finger, as in "tying the knot". Maybe he considered her his "wife" and this prostitute was trying to tempt him away.
