I think its about two people who were best friends who drifted apart, and sometimes you've gotta do things to keep the friendship strong which is why you've gotta break the rules to have fun i.e 'break a promise to your mother' and he doesn't want his best friend to turn her back on him coz they had a good friendship. - 'i never let you turn around, your back on eachother'
I think he also thinks times going too fast and thats why he thinks 'its wrong'. He can't understand how all his friends are moving on to new things in their lives while he still thinks about memories. Which also makes me think its about being stuck in the past and not wanting things to change. I think hes just thinking about life in general too, wondering who'll be there for him in the long run and whoever he's singing this to, he doesn't want to lose them.
