The song shares the view of the hole album which outstands the fact that you should let the voice inside guide you no matter what. Society, or your parents, or your obligations might opress you, still you have to fight that to let yourself free. Generalizing, you'll find that everyone's alone in that fight (though some (many) people might not have it) and human itself is destined to struggle in order to find a place (alone, "down on the upside") in this world.
