This is one of my favorite John Lennon songs. I don't really acknowledge the “Beatles” version. With all due respect, it was a fascinating and sentimental peculiarity, but not a real Beatles song. This Regina Spektor rendition is the only true and complete version, as John sadly did not have the opportunity to do a finished recording.

This song is about the happiness of finding true love. It's about more than just being in a semi-functional relationship. It's about finding a soulmate. That's why he/she says:

“Thought I'd been in love before but in my heart I wanted more seems like all I really was doing was waiting for you”

They've found the one person that they were always longing to be with. The person they were made for. Of course such a thing may not actually exist, but it's a nice thought for someone to be in such a positive relationship that they feel perfectly compatible together.

I understand what John meant when he wrote:

“From this moment on I know exactly where my life will go seems that all I really was doing was waiting for love...”

It's the security a person would feel from knowing they've found THE ONE. They know their future is going to be planned around the person they love, and they can just imagine being together forever.

I don't generally like most John Lennon covers, but I love this one. I'm glad Regina did such a respectable job on this.
