well i believe he is telling the story of how he fell in love with his addictions to drugs. he would use these drugs to cope with any pain he had and eventually they took over.

to me the song doesnt hint to weither or not he beat his habbits in the end, but i believe the mystery in the story makes for some deep powerfull lyrics.
