As for the song, Dave refers to his brother once, and he seems to be an important person in the Street to Nowhere songs. (see "They're Not Like Us")
Dave is also known for his love to play the acoustic guitar whenever he gets the chance, rather than his electric. Maybe by saying "no acoustic sound" and "a new set of lungs", he means the band is straying away from their roots to make the crowd love them. After all, they're not very well known, and they were recently signed by Capital... even though that was like a year ago. (I liked them even when they were an independent artist.)
