I sort of agree with mrs_chainsaw, but I see this song more as an "anarchist's anthem", if you will. The way I see it, it's a rejection of the fickle society in which we live. Take:

"Baby you don't have to be A picture in a magazine"

It's basically sharing the knowledge that we aren't all perfect, that we don't have to be perfect, and that we can reject the media if we want.

The repetition of the line: "Keep on doing your thing you do now," seems to suggest that there are many different ways we can "express" ourselves; different ways in which we can "fight" the degradation of our society. They just do it by writing music.

It's also about inspiration and how:

"The tiny spark that you create It can inspire and duplicate And soon it spreads from state To state from Williamsburg to Silverlake"

i've always thought it was about individualism or perhaps being in a band and believing in your band so much, but kind of feeling like it's going nowhere.
