Firstly, I completely love this song. Up to this point it is the only excellent Disney Song [Aly and AJ don't count and Hannah Montana just sucks imo].
I think this song is about just getting away from our crazy lives for a second. We are always busy and have tons of issues to deal with. Sometimes it seems like the world is going too fast. In my opinion, Van Der Pol is expressing that every once and awhile we should follow a whim and do something exciting and not care about what is going on elsewhere in our lives. We need to get over our problems and just try to lighten up and slow down.
