For the whole song, it's like he's trying to get the person to let him comfort them, but they won't let him get close enough to trust him with it, he just wants to be allowed to help.
The first set of reaosns are the most mundane, and then there's the beautiful poetic verse, and the lovely line about stars, which I guess is trying to show the wider concpets that can make you sad, that are hard to put into words "the stars are madeo f tin" sounds like someone dissillusioned with the world, finding all the beautiufl things fake, and "banging on the roof" that they feel trapped and want to escape...it's one of those huge things that just crushes you sometimes but you can't explain why. I suppose he recognizes that, because the "the sun will rise and keep your mind at ease" is him giving up on understanding why the person's sad, but trying to offer generalized comfort anyway by tellign them it will be better in the morning.
The way he sings the "please" over and over is one of the things I love most about the song, he puts so much emotion in it, it's a really tender, pleading sound.
