i think this song is about him loving a girl & wanting to be with her so bad, & although she loves him & wants to be with him too, she's afraid to take that next step with him because she has been scarred by past relationships that went wrong.
when he says

i think he's telling her she should let go of her fears & take that chance with him because they could end up being just what the other one needs & having a really great, beautiful relationship.
and when he says

he's saying how if she doesn't take that chance of being with him they'll never know what could've been, & most likely end up missing out on something great.

i think dancing on the edge is a metaphore for doing something daring that could cause u to get hurt. and "is something still scaring you" is him asking her if she's still scared that what happened to her in the past will happen again. and by saying "The count on 3 its on..." & "Just hold my hand and go..." he's saying it's time to let go of her fears & be with him.*
