Richard Archer (The lead singer) said that parts of this album are autobiographical.
He left Staines for a better life somewhere else thinking that he was getting nowhere in the dead-end town. The band that he was in turned out to be going nowhere and after his life crumbled and the death of his father, Richard returned to Staines. I feel the whole album is about this as well as Can't Get Along from the first album.
THE KING: He returns to Staines, tries to find his old girlfriend and fails. Staines used to be his home, his kingdom, he was known there, but now he's just Richard.
