I don't see it as if he's lost anyone. I see this song as someone being isolated from society because he's not quite as 'proper' as other people.. "The social face, the private face." I think that is a reference to how Japanese people change their behaviors so often to stay formal or professional. You never know what they're really thinking. Then comes Kyo being the other person who chooses to show all his sadness/pain/sorrow or any other emotion without hiding them. Over time, people just tend to ignore him until the occasional sometime that he gets acknowledged as human.
