i think this song is all about refusing to conform to society's standards

"We all can lean on figures and crutches It's such an easy thing to do when you're so unaware We all can change our tegument's function Replace the outer shell with something more neoteric We all can lean on figures and crutches A busy wife-child losing all her selfish memory Will only lean on figures and crutches Become a child and plastic surgeon"

the figures and crutches are those holding up society, such as government leaders, and the next line is talking about how people are so unaware of how they conform and that we don't even question or notice when we do. i'm going to agree with the person above me on how "changing the tengument's function" is talking about changing what's on the outside, but i think it's saying that now people are changing their outsides to be just like everyone else as with standards of beauty and behavior. and the next line goes on with this idea as saying we're changing our outside shell to be more neoteric, meaning new so going with the new trend. this can also go along with the line about the plastic surgeons and the mother line reminds me of a stepford wives scenario.

"Let her go Yelled the occupied pharaohs A lucky soul Who just so happened to break out

She took the corner way And in the event that the normal result should fail"

this is all about someone realising that conformity is just stupid and they escape from it.

"If you won't blink at me, I'm coming If you wanna be something new, I'm coming If you won't blink at me, I'm coming And I won't breathe at all Until you blink at me, I'm coming If you wanna be something new, I'm coming If you won't blink at me, I'm coming And I won't breathe until now."

then i'm not sure about the chorus, but i think it has something to do with awakening everyone else to how we are all becoming pretty much the same and uniqueness is becoming a rareity.

"We all can lean on figures and crutches The politburos will expect their free lunches Perhaps we all Van Gogh our hearing of pieces But we're assured of the existance of a better way We all can lean on figures and crutches Replace our hearts"

here "politburos" means communist leaders so i'm pretty sure this stanza is talking about how leaders expect everyone to be the same and the free lunches means we're expected to support our leaders. then "van gogh our pieces of hearing" is like cutting off our ears so we don't listen to them anymore. breaking away because we can find better leaders to lean on and replace our hearts.

so in conclusion i think this is a song about awakening people to how our society is becoming so utterly conformist and that we need to stop. but that's just my idea...

on another note, brilliant song. love it =]
