This song wasn't written for Roger. Pete wrote this at Live Aid when somebody told him that AIDS was like a fire and the concert was going to sort of "Put out the fire". But there is still going to be an effect "After the Fire". He explains it quite well on the Deep End Live! Album...
@LeftyTownshend Huh ?!? What are you talking about ? This concert had to do with the Ethiopian famine - He makes NO mention of "AIDS" on the Deep End Live CD. In fact, he doesn't speak about the song at all - it just starts directly after "Barefootin'"

@LeftyTownshend LiveAid was for famine relief, not AIDS. It's pretty clear that the song is about long-ago love, and some social upheaval stuff, presumably as a metaphor.
