I'd like to think this song has similar meaning to the best time of my life. In 1979 ironically the same year this song was released, I came to know the Horsepeople (cowgirls and boys) at the farm and hang out all the time durning "the days of my youth..". Twenty eight years later through all my travels "all across the oceans" not a day went by when didn't think about them and want to go back there. Eventhough the people and place were so important to me, I'm sure only a few of us that hang around can still remember. And now some of the dreams(memories) are actually starting to fade.

"Well, it's a hard thing to face the music: But it's something everybody has got to do So I hope that I can always remember All the crazy times we had to go through Now it's a dream that is slowly fading And I don't want it to go All of the memories are evading And I want you to know (it's the)" So personally I think this song is about surviving and leaving your youth behind and always wanting to go back.

Although the term" people of the southwind" refers to the Kansa American Indian tribe (later derived into Kansas). Not sure how this song applies to a tribe.........Great song though!!!
