this song tries - and succeeds I think - in encompassing the whole 80's club scene, before it became cliche to do so. In its simplest terms, the song really is about ALTERNATIVE sex, drugs, and rock n roll of the day (1982/3.) This early 80's club scene was truly avant garde, as opposed to the raves and drug-fueled club scene of the past 10 + years. Back then, these clubs were the only sources of hearing this alternative music (that and college radio) so when you did go out to the club this would be the only time and place where you would meet and see like-minded alternative-oriented people. And trust me, once you flipped that stone over you were amazed at what came out; lip-stick lesbians, speedball-fueled punks, and pre-AIDS sexuality. Man, I miss that era.
