I agree with Lainason, but everyone is kinda right.
It's, to me, about how you like someone, so naturally you'll help them out. Not necessarily expecting something, but over time you'd think your niceties will be paid off through dating (or whatever). You're so willing to help them with everything just so they'll hopefully realize how nice you've been and return the favor somehow.
