To me, this song is about living for yourself, and casting out all hipocrisy: I'll enjoy life, I'll do whatever I genuinely want to do, while the others worry about what's right and wrong. When she says "we're gonna keep our eyes wide open" she's talking about how everyone else is looking up, accomodating their lifes to intangible beliefs, while real life is going on down here. My boyfriend and I love this song, it is about freedom and cutting the strings, just living without caring about external prejudice.
