I guess everyone can have their own take to it.
But what i'm leaning toward is, a romantic couple generally having to part not on their own accord e.g One has to move away to another country, even a couple parting from high school or college even.
Its not a break-up of choice, but mostly of circumstance mainly from the parts which says
"I realise what I?m missing
And now that you?ve gone
So I say a prayer
Are you out there
Are you feeling what I?m feeling now, yeah"
So basically its about having to part due to events not by choice, but being gracious and accepting reality for what it is ,which takes enormous amount of spirit, as the song clearly portrays.
And finally, the protaganist leavies it thoroughly into the hands of fate if their paths were ever to cross again (Serendipity anyone?)
This is an awesome song.Gives me goosebumps all the time
A whole new meaning to a bittersweet symphony dont you think :)
