Sometimes its what a songs lyric means to you, so heres my interpretation.
Another day, newspapers say
Life, whatchu do to me?
I’m always here, you’re always there
Hope, that’s my company
I think that means two people that are separated by distance but there is the hope of getting together at some point.
Yeah stars of only so many wishes though
They can tell what we already know
See I’m just gathering all my eyes can see through
I’m bearing witness to you, I’m bearing witness to you
You can wish upon a star but it doesnt really matter because I've laid my faith in you. Love drives that faith in you.
I could keep going on but I get a lot of the whole love from a distance vibe and the whole having faith in the greater purpose that lies ahead for two people.
Most of CSouls song are about christianity not a love of other people but of the love of God and how he makes you do what is right for yourself. By the way Ed and Deans dad was a Baptist minister. That is the origin of most of their songs and that is why so many of Csouls songs are a mystery to some people.

This song is about the struggles we face inside to live a life of integrity so others may see and do the same, particulary the ones we love.

@spiralbrain@john8228 You are right about Ed and Dean, and there ARE many subtle Christian/religious overtones in their music. They are completely overlooked unless you are on the same page, because it's not in your face. That's one of the things I love about collective soul, but I believe Ed is also a bit deeper than even that as a song writer. One thing that a great lyricist can do (in my opinion) is have layers to their writing, while magically keeping the message from being vague. Ed is one of the best at this I believe. He often leaves...

He often leaves you wondering if he is talking about God or a relationship with a woman. Some times brings up "his father," biological or God? And I swear some of Ed's songs are from him imagining God's point of view. That, or either he wrote those songs sounding uncharacteristically vain, egotistical, superior or something. I highly doubt that is the case though, I'm pretty good at reading people, and I never got that vibe from him. That would also contrast out of character with the message in any other song. I'm very analytical, and being a huge collective soul fan, I have tried tho crack the code to every single one of their songs LOL
