Poundcake Lyrics

The song is about his love for traditional country women. Sammy isn't down with the liberal city girls who dress sleazy to get a man's attention. He wants a "plain, clean, and simple (woman), wrapped up nice n' tight"; a woman of taste, who has self respect.

The chorus: "And homegrown and down-home, that makes one Cookin' up that old time, long lost recipe for me. Woo!"

Another example, he wants a real "down home" country girl, which is rare in this time and age and even more difficult for someone of his stature to find.

These paragraph: It's gettin' hard to find Guess it ain't hip enough now You take an average guy, he can't identify, uh And there's a short supply of her fine, fine stuff

He says it again, this type of woman, a REAL woman, is really hard to find and its not "cool" to be chasing these country girls. He thinks the typical guy doesn't understand how he feels, they're chasing the high maintenance city girls and as time goes by the old fashioned girl he's looking for, the good stuff, its becoming extremely hard to find.

This paragraph: I've been out there Tried a little bit of everything But it's all sex without love I found the real thing is poundcake

He's a rock star and he's been around the block and has screwed a lot of different women but there was no love involved, just lust. He's come to realize that the thing he's been looking for is the love of a simple country girl and he uses "poundcake" as a symbol of this simple country girl.

Its all about symbolism. Poundcake is a symbol of the country and to be more specific in this case he's using it as a symbol of the country girls, not anal sex. He's a friggin' rock star, you don't think women would lining up for anal sex with him when he wrote this? Van Halen was the biggest band around back then. He had his pick of women at the shows but the the kind of woman he was looking for wasn't lining up to have sex with him in the dressing room. A real woman with self respect and traditional values. This is what I get from listening to it anyway.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS IT!!!!!
