Anyway, I definitely think this song is, as someone else mentioned, about sex that's most likely a one-night stand, or at least something that wasn't supposed to become complicated.
I sort of thought this song was about two -exes hooking up after their relationship had been over for a while, and maybe the "different image of what this was supposed to be" was that they thought they could just have sex like old times, but it involved more than they'd bargained for (probably because they were drunk and weren't able to really think things through).
