I think this song is about him trying to find himself, but he needs the one he loves to help him. He is so lost that he can't find his own way out, it hurts him soo much. The pain is so bad, since he is so lost within himself, that he feels now that it is a dream, he wants the pain to go away.

It could be a break up where the girl left him, but he gave her EVERYTHING, thus him being heartless, and souless, because he has no more compassion for anyone because he was hurt so bad.
