"Teenage Lobotomy," written by the entire band, is yet another loud tribute to mental illness. Since the joke on the Leave Home LP was that the Ramones were doing Carbona, the joke on Rocket to Russia was that the band was now into DDT, the insecticide (also in "I Wanna Be Well").
@Shocktreatment77 Thank you, that explains a lot! When I heard the song when I was 14 I knew what DDT was, and it wasn't a drug. LSD or PCP (or now Ecstasy) would have made perfect sense, but DDT didn't. I just guessed that DDT was some exotic drug so debilitating that only burnt out street people in New York City would do it. Confirmed by the reference in "I Wanna Be Well". Now that I"m in on the joke, it's funny!
