This song is truly awesome. Darkest Hour haven't certainly lost their power with the last album Deliver Us, they're still at their very best. This band is absolutely great and John Henry's lyrics are brilliant.
I was wondering if these lyrics could really be about the Tunguska events in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, the world's biggest explosion caused by a meteorite. "So let the rains come down and explore the possibility that it all ended that day" - I think these lines might refer to it as well as "dormant beneath us what was will be, dwelling within us what is will be no more" says that this type of event is gonna happen again despite the "sustaining scientific prophecy". The first four lines of the song describe the horror that the explosion caused.

I think that they are probably using the Tunguska event as an allusion rather than writing about it directly.
