The band was performing this song live during their "Tour on a Stick" in 1996, and at the time it was intended to be on the Much Afraid album, but it didn't make the final cut (which I believe was either because it didn't fit thematically, or the album already had too many slow songs). It can be found on their rarities album "The White Elephant Sessions".

I believe it's about one of the band members' grandparents - a testament to their marriage, which lasted 50 years. They've described this as their "sappy country song".

Alison Krauss sings backup on this song, and I believe she also played violin.

It's a beautiful song. One of my all-time favorites by the band despite its rare status.
