I think the whole Temptation of Adam thing is an allusion to the bible. Where as the apple was the temptation of Eve and the Devil was the tempter, For Adam the love is the temptation and the nuclear war/bomb is the devil/evil that will bring him love at the price of the world - like Eden.
But this can only really be drawn as a clear conclusion using the title so i dont think Mr Ritter wanted religion to be the most dominant theme.
