this song is amazing. I love the way it starts off with the creepy half-whisper "I can ride my bike with no handlebars" - as if there is something more sinister to come from that seemingly innocent show of skill.
to me, that first lyric pans out to represent an arrogant and scary attitude of America towards the rest of the world.
"I can hand out a million vaccinations
Or let'em all die in exasperation
Have'em all grilled leavin lacerations
Have'em all killed by assassination
I can make anybody go to prison
Just because I don't like'em and
I can do anything with no permission
I have it all under my command"
flobots are wondering at and scared by the power the dominant have - the power to play with lives, to save a million lives or let them die depending on our fancy, to assasinate who we want, to end the planet in a nuclear holocaust. They draw this out from such a global level (I can guide a missile by satellite) to such a seemingly innocent activity as riding a bike, at the beginning and end, and seem to ask the question whether one really should ride their bike without handlebars (have free dominion over the world) simply because he can.
Well i have read a lot of them but i think that there is a simpler way to sum up this whole song.

From my perspective all the lyrics in the songs are about and individuals influence on others around them and the actions that they are capable of doing but not necessarily do.

Examples for my statement are painted throughout the lyrics so i won't bother posting an specific parts.

which is very perceptive, if any of you have seen the movie the shawshank redemption(spoiler inc), Andy(the main character) is convicted of murder, basically near the end of the movie when he escapes from the prison he is able to start a new life with the money from the warden because he understands the way that things work in this world and therefore understands the flaws and lupoles of the system.
Yeah. You said it exactly right. But not really Flobots being scared, but them showing the world of how people who are already powerful, try to become even MORE powerful.

I think the song has a number of different meanings. On the one hand, you could take it as them saying that it's easy to become a monster without even realizing. It starts out with simple, innocent things that one would relate to childhood. Then it gets more grown up, talking about adulthood, and the road to success. Then it completely changes and talks about power, and the abuse of it. It's sort of showing a person changing, how they started out as a regular kid and grew to become a dangerous world power. On the other hand, it could...

It could be taken in any number of ways. That's what's so great about it!
It's about innocence, human innovation and the power, responsibility and corruption that can stem from it.

The start is about what the two people can innocently accomplish and the potential they have. But as their abilities grow one of them seeks more power to cause good. They grow in power and responsibilities and they have the power to cause great good. But as they become more technologically advanced so does their power to cause good OR bad and with that the danger and responsibility. In the end, they get overcome by power and despite their good intentions greed starts to control everything. The other person was more humble and never sought the power it takes to make such changes. He tries to save the world and stand up at the end but by then the system is too powerful. It's about the responsibilities and great power we have as a race and the whole story is a metaphor for humanity itself.
